Yes, you can find a real business opportunity online. Yes, unfortunately, you can also get scammed. You can’t turn your computer on without seeing an Internet marketing business opportunity pop up. The problem with the Internet is that it is largely anonymous. In the old brick-and-mortar days you could look someone in the eyes before you began working as an employee for them. With the vast number of business opportunities available via the Web now, this isn’t always the case. So how do you tell if the business opportunity is legitimate or a scam?
Jobs are fairly scarce in today’s economy. With that said, Internet scammers love to use the tactic of a “work from home job” to get victims to fall for their strategies. Before you hand over money with the promise of starting to make thousands of dollars, make sure you do some research. It is perfectly normal for some companies to require you to pay some money up front. This is to cover certain costs and expenses on their end. However, this is also where scammers like to get you. They will get your money without you ever earning a dollar through them. So do a little research. Talk with people who may have worked for them. Is the company on the “500 list?” What do other companies and individuals who do business with them think? Are they a legitimate company? If there are minimal or no actual referrals or experiences from people dealing with a respective company, chances are you’re about to get scammed.
Besides getting referrals and actual experience from people, you should logically decide if the business plan that company has in place is actually capable of making money. In other words, is there a market for the product or service the company is offering? Does it make sense? If at all possible, talk with your employer and ask to see sales receipts. This often can help make your decision for you. On a similar note, is the business going to be successful enough to allow you as the employee to make enough money? Ensure that the money you receive will be enough to satisfy your financial requirements. How much of your time will this take up? Many home-based or online business may require you to work long, extended hours, or at odd hours of the night. Will this work for you? If not, it may be wise to consider another company.
There are a great many scammers out there, who are just trying to get your money up front, without ever planning on doing business with you. There are just as many – if not more – legitimate companies out there, through whom you can make a legitimate and steady living. It all depends on the research you conduct and how sure you are about the particular business.
